Breathe Life into your Practice

I work with yoga practitioners who are looking to bring more vibrancy, play, and life into their yoga practice.

Yoga is a bountiful tradition offering resources to help you deepen your relationship with yourself, your body, and your life. In doing so, it offers a way for metabolizing the challenges of our modern world, for re-humanizing our hearts and minds, and for re-invigorating our sense of agency and well-being.

When's the last time you felt that way about your practice? If you're ready to explore the deeper dimensions of yoga through a fun, functional, and accessible lens, a private yoga series might be for you.

Why Invest in a Private Yoga Series?

In the U.S., most of us encounter yoga for the first time in a public class or studio setting. And for all that those classes and teachers have to offer, the container is limited in its ability to help you access the deeper dimensions of a yoga practice.

That's where private yoga instruction comes in. Whether you are new to yoga or have a practice that you're seeking to deepen and grow, working 1-on-1 with an instructor can be the difference between yoga as a casual hobby or a transformative resource in your life.

The private series format offers many gifts to me as the teacher and you as the practitioner. Dedicated time allows us to cultivate a shared language for your uniquely individual experience in your body, on your mat, and in your life. Regular sessions allow us to progress and explore the depths of what's possible. And the ability to lean into the practice of presence together cultivates a trust that is the fertile ground for curiosity, exploration, play, and joy.

A Bit About Me

Yoga Refuge headshot.jpeg

Kat Kocurek (she/her)

  • I've been teaching yoga since 2017 and practicing since 2005.

  • A former competitive athlete, I've harnessed my love for movement into modalities that prioritize embodiment, exploration, and play.

  • Between public classes and private yoga series, I have over 1,000 hours of teaching under my belt.

  • Today I lead three weekly classes with Yoga Refuge PDX and see private clients from my personal studio in Southeast Portland.

  • I am a forever student. With more than 800 hours of training in yoga and movement, I'm constantly investing in continued learning and education.

  • My teachers are my inspiration. And there are so many! Some that you may have heard of or seen on the interwebs include Jules Mitchell, Todd Hargrove, Brea Johnson, and Trisha Durham. My local teachers (who, like me, don't love the interwebs) include Lisa Mae Osborne, Kate Busby, and many others who continue to inspire and shape me as a mover and teacher.

  • I live in Southeast Portland with my husband, Matt, and our dog, Becca.

  • I am reluctantly on social media

  • My happiest moments are when students tell me that I've helped them bring play and joy back to their yoga practice!
